Jan Martens - sweat baby sweat (2011)
working together with a video designer and a composer, sweat baby sweat becomes a work in which composed music and projected text take an important role next to the moving composition.
departure point is again the most cliché theme ever: a relationship between a man and a woman. by adding love song lyrics and by moments even mellow music one would expect a very theatrical approach, but the contrary is true.

A man came by my bedside early morning before yesterday. He wheeled in as Whistler´s Mother. Although from left, not right (as her) Turning towards me, becoming transparent into his bones, and then whoof! Off again. Not sure what to make of it.
Carmen Amaya (frame from DVD ‘Carmen Amaya.
La reina del embrujo gitano’)
“There is no greater inspiration and no better example for a bailaor than to watch Carmen Amaya in action. Eva Yerbabuena and Antonio Canales, for instance, confess having worn out recordings of the brilliant artist, audiovisual testimonies which up until now have circulated by fits and starts. The DVD contained in the pack ‘La reina del embrujo gitano’ solves the problem of access to this legacy. The contents are divided into three blocks.”

Princess Tuvstarr gazing down into the dark waters of the forest tarn. John Bauer (1882-1918)
A man in the doorway
Lit from behind
Fire fire fireman?
Framed inside door
Between inner
And outer.
To the left view
A tree in the forest
Straight growing tree
Two little trolls
By the root
Clinging to the
Tree like balls
Disguised in
Santas clothes
Hiding their faces
In santas hoodies
Little Zwarte Piets?
Green green grass
In front
On top
Of the underworld
long long roots
down down
in the ground.
Ball shoes
Shoes with balls
Excess and adorn!
With feet
On the ground
